Based on the measured density of Tomato sauce (1.02 g/mL). Values rounded; real weight varies by brand, packing and temperature. Full sources in the tool on ChefSolver.

100 ml of tomato sauce weighs approximately 102 g.

The conversion can vary slightly depending on whether it is tomato sauce, passata (smooth purée) or crushed tomatoes.

The converter uses a density of about 1.02 g/mL for tomato sauce — a little heavier than water because of the pulp and concentration.

Tomato sauce, passata and crushed tomatoes: is it the same conversion?

The three products are close but not identical, and texture changes how they measure:

  • Tomato sauce. Usually smooth to semi-liquid. This is the product the converter is calibrated to (density ≈ 1.02 g/mL).
  • Passata (smooth purée). Often more fluid and homogeneous (tomatoes blended and sieved). Its density stays close to tomato sauce, so the value is a good estimate rather than an exact measure.
  • Crushed tomatoes. Contain pieces and juice, so filling a container is less uniform. The weight for a given volume can vary more — treat the result as a ballpark figure.

Passata is not tomato paste (which is far denser and thicker): do not mix the two for conversion.

Why grams and millilitres are not the same

Millilitres measure volume; grams measure mass. Water weighs about 1 g per ml, but tomato sauce is a little denser: 100 ml weighs about 102 g, not 100 g. The exact density depends on water content, how much pulp there is, the concentration and the brand — which is why published values vary slightly from one source to another.

Common tomato sauce conversions

The most-used volumes, at a density of 1.02 g/mL:

  • 100 ml: ≈ 102 g.
  • 200 ml: ≈ 204 g.
  • 250 ml: ≈ 255 g.
  • 400 ml: ≈ 408 g.
  • 500 ml: ≈ 510 g.

For the reverse, divide grams by 1.02: 200 g of tomato sauce ≈ 196 ml, 500 g ≈ 490 ml.

Need the reverse?

This page is built to convert millilitres to grams. To go from grams to millilitres, divide by the density the converter uses (~1.02): for example, 200 g of tomato sauce ≈ 196 ml.

Tomato sauce ml-to-grams FAQ

How much does 100 ml of tomato sauce weigh?
About 102 g. Tomato sauce has a density of roughly 1.02 g/mL, so 100 ml weighs about 102 g — slightly more than 100 g of water.
How much does 200 ml of tomato sauce weigh?
About 204 g. For reference, 250 ml is about 255 g and 500 ml about 510 g.
Does passata convert the same way?
Almost. Passata is more fluid and homogeneous, but its density stays close to tomato sauce. The converter uses the tomato-sauce density, so for passata the value is a good practical estimate.
Do crushed tomatoes weigh the same as tomato sauce?
Roughly, but with more uncertainty. Pieces and juice make filling less even, so the weight for a given volume can vary more. Treat the result as a ballpark figure.
Why do different sites give different values?
Because density depends on water, pulp, concentration and brand, and each source rounds differently. This page uses a single density (1.02 g/mL) consistently.
Can I convert grams of tomato sauce to ml?
Yes. Divide the grams by the density (~1.02): 200 g ≈ 196 ml, 500 g ≈ 490 ml. This page is still designed for ml → grams.
